About Us

The Origin

In the summer of 2004, a harrowing news story emerged from Patiala, Punjab: newborn infants of the same sex were found discarded and subjected to acid in an attempt to destroy their gender identification. This shocking revelation deeply disturbed Amit and Jyoti Bawa of Amritsar, who were profoundly affected by the brutality they witnessed.

Realizing the gravity of the situation and the urgent need for action, the couple understood that merely addressing the immediate crisis was insufficient. They recognized the necessity of a comprehensive approach to not only combat the immediate issues but also to instill a lasting change in societal attitudes. Their mission was to restore moral values eroded by modernization and materialism, and to nurture the next generation with a blend of cultural integrity and contemporary thinking.

After extensive discussion and reflection, Amit and Jyoti Bawa founded Punjabi Samvad (A Dialogue on Life) and launched their first initiative with the play “KHOON BOLDA HAI” (The Well Cries!). Written and directed by Jyoti Bawa, with poetry by Amit Bawa, this effort marked the beginning of their fight against social evils. Despite the challenges, the organization attracted many committed individuals, including prominent figures from Amritsar and beyond, all dedicated to making a meaningful impact.
